CHECK (3): meaning and examples

Good morning. I hope you had a good weekend. Today we will finish with the word check, but this time as a noun. MEANING 1: an examination of something to confirm that it is as it should be. (Notice that this is the noun equivalent of the first meaning of the verb that we looked at last week.) Example 1 This document is full of errors. Didn't anyone do a spell check? Example 2 To guarantee the safety of the passengers, routine checks are done on the airplanes. MEANING 2: A piece of paper given by a bank that allows you to pay without money (talón). Example 3 After we finished eating dinner in the restaurant, they told us that it was not possible to pay for the meal with a check. MEANING 3: In US English --> a piece of paper that you are given in a restaurant showing you how much money you owe. In UK English we usually say bill. Example 4 After we finished eating dinner in the restaurant, they told us that it was not possible to pay the bill with a check. So, we could also create the somewhat ridiculous example below, in US English. Example 5 After we finished eating dinner in that restaurant, they told us that it was not possible to pay the check with a check.
