ASHAMED: meaning and examples

Good morning again.

Yesterday we explained the meaning of the adjective embarrassed. Today we will look at a similar word.

Today's word is: ASHAMED

It means: to feel guilty, embarrassed or inadequate. Perhaps you have done something wrong or the situation is not up to the desired standard. There is usually a moral implication when we say ashamed.

Example 1:
Sam was caught stealing a chocolate bar from the local shop. When the shopkeeper called his parents, he felt very ashamed and promised that he would never do it again.

Example 2:
Brian didn't want to pick up his new girlfriend in his car because he felt ashamed that the car was so old. So, he borrowed a friend's car.

If you have any questions about the differences between embarrassed and ashamed, remember that you can post a query in the Daily Vitamin section on our website.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
