EMBARRASSED: meaning and examples

Good morning. I hope you had a nice weekend.

This week we are going to talk about some words and forms related to the adjective EMBARRASSED. Be careful! This is a false friend in Spanish!

Today's word is: EMBARRASSED

It means: to feel self-conscious because you have done something silly or foolish in front of somebody else. Perhaps you did not follow social etiquette rules (you burped) or something occurred that was out of your control (your trousers fell down).

Example 1:
I will never forget the day that I had to give a speech at a local auditorium. As I was walking to the stage, I tripped and fell down. I felt so embarrassed!

Example 2:
Mandy: Why didn't you introduce me to your friend?
Gary: I'm sorry, but I couldn't remember his name and I was too embarrassed to ask him, so I said nothing at all.

Tomorrow we will look at a word with a similar meaning.

Enjoy your day!
