WORDY WEDNESDAY: JACK UP (PRICES): meaning and examples

Good morning, English fans! How's your Wednesday going?

This week we are looking at a slang word used commonly in the U.S. It's the phrasal verb TO JACK UP (prices / the cost). 

Definition: to raise the price of a product or service. 

Example 1: They jacked up the price for avocados in California after there was a shortage. (This really happened, and Californians were NOT happy!)

Example 2: I can't believe how they jacked up petrol prices again. It's so expensive to drive now!

Example 3: The restaurant jacked the cost up for their margaritas. 

This phrasal verb is TRANSITIVE and SEPARABLE.
