THEME THURSDAY: EXPRESSIONS ABOUT LAUGHTER (THE LAST LAUGH): meaning and examples
Hello, everyone!
This month we are looking at expressions about laughter for Theme Thursday. Today we are learning the expression TO HAVE THE LAST LAUGH.
Definition 1: to succeed when others thought you would not.
Example 1: They said she wasn't pretty enough to be a model, but she had the last laugh when she was on the cover of Vogue.
Definition 2: to make someone who has criticized or defeated you look stupid by succeeding at something more important or by seeing them fail.
Example 2: They think my business plan is foolish, but we'll see who has the last laugh.
Example 3: My friend always joked about how terrible my English is, but then I studied hard and passed the CAE exam. Now we will see who has the last laugh!
