VOCABULARY WITH 'FATHER' (GRANDFATHERED IN): meaning and examples

Good morning, Daily Vitamin readers! Welcome to another lesson.

We are continuing with our theme for the week: Vocabulary with the word FATHER.

Today we are looking at the term: GRANDFATHERED IN

Definition: A person or group not covered by a new law or policy because of a "grandfather clause," which is an exemption from the new rule or policy. The group or person can continue to operate under the existing set of regulations; new rules will only apply to future cases.

Example 1: All new cars will have to pass new pollution restrictions; cars made before 2019 will be grandfathered in.

Example 2: The company no longer offers unlimited data plans for mobile phones, but mine was grandfathered in since I have had this plan since 2010.

That's all for today. Thank you for reading! Have a fantastic day.
