TO SET, TO REACH A GOAL: meaning and examples

Good morning!

We are going to finish our series on words related to changing habits with two verbs that are commonly used with the noun GOAL.

TO SET A GOAL

It means: to decide on a goal that you want to achieve.

Example 1:
As part of this personal development course, each participant must set three personal goals and three professional goals for next year.

TO REACH A GOAL

It means: to arrive at the point where you have completed your goal.

Example 2:
Mark: What goals have you set for 2013?
Pat: Well, I want to lose weight.
Mark: How will you know when you've reached that goal? Can you be more specific?
Pat: Okay, sure. I want to lose 10kg. I'll know I've reached my goal when I weigh 65 kg.
