TO GET (= TO RECEIVE)
TO GET (= TO RECEIVE): meaning and examples
Hello and welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you are doing well.
Today is our fourth lesson in a series of five which have been dedicated to the very useful English verb to get. This time we will look at the most typical or obvious use of get to mean to obtain or receive.
Consider the following examples.
Example 1: Jack got a new computer for his birthday. OR Jack's father got him a new computer for his birthday.
Example 2: Mary's parents finally got the chance to meet her fiancé, Alex, who lives in Greece.
Example 3: Diane sold her old car this week. I heard she got 3,000 euros for it, but I don't think it was worth that much.
⇒ In order to get some writing practice, I encourage you to write your own sentence (or two) with this most obvious use of GET. You can post your sentences to one of our social media sites (Facebook or Bluesky) and we will give you feedback about your writing ASAP.
I hope you have a great day!
