ORDERING EGGS IN ENGLISH-3: meaning and examples

Hello again everyone. I wonder how many of you had eggs for breakfast today.

Today we look at eggs that are cooked in water.

Today's eggs are: hard-boiled eggs, soft-boiled eggs and poached eggs.

Hard-boiled eggs: eggs cooked in boiling water with the shell. Hard-boiled eggs are cooked through until both the whites and yolk are completely set.

Soft-boiled eggs: eggs cooked in boiling water with the shell. Soft-boiled eggs are cooked only to the point at which the whites are set but the yolk is still liquid. Sometimes this is called a three-minute egg.

In England it's quite common to eat soft-boiled eggs with toasted soldiers, long pieces of toasted bread that are dipped in the soft egg. Here is a short video that explains how to prepare a boiled egg and soldiers.

One final type of egg that is prepared in water is the poached egg.

Poached eggs: eggs that have been removed from their shell and then cooked in a hot liquid. The cooking liquid can be water, broth, or any sauce. Poaching in water is often used as a way to cook eggs without having to use extra fat. Poaching in broth or sauce adds flavour to the cooked egg.

Tomorrow we will look at a couple of more ways to prepare eggs. Until then, have a great day.
