ORDERING EGGS IN ENGLISH-1: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone. I hope you had a nice weekend.

One of our users suggested that we review how to order eggs in English. It can be quite complicated, as demonstrated by this humorous YouTube video.

Pronunciation: First remember that there is an important difference between the pronunciation of EGG (Sp: huevo) and ACHE (Sp: dolor/doler). The consonant after [e] is voiced in EGG, but not in ACHE. The narrator in the above YouTube video actually has problems with this difference, but we understand him because of the context.

Compare the pronunciation at the following links to the Oxford Learner's Dictionary.

There are different ways to prepare eggs. They can be fried, boiled, scrambled or poached, among others. And sometimes there are dialectical variations, for example between standard UK English and standard US English. Today we'll start with scrambled eggs.

SCRAMBLED EGGS
: these are cooked by mixing the white and the yellow parts (yolk) of the egg together and heating them, sometimes with milk and/or butter. (In Spanish these are huevos revueltos.)

Example
Waiter: How would you like your eggs?
Client: Scrambled, please.
Waiter. Excellent choice! Our scrambled eggs are very good. Would you also like some toast and orange juice?
Client: Yes, thank you.

Tomorrow we will look at the different types of fried eggs. Until then, have a great day.
