CONNECTORS: IN ADDITION (TO): meaning and examples
Hello again and welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.
Yesterday we began a series of Vitamins about CONNECTORS that are used to continue the same idea or give additional information. We explained the words also and too.
Today's connector is: in addition
It is used: to continue the same idea of something that has been previously stated or to give additional information.
Word position: you can begin a sentence with in addition comma.
Example 1:
The job is approximately 40 hours per week from Mondays to Fridays. In addition, you are required to work alternate weekends, for which you will be paid overtime (horas extras).
Example 2:
The building facilities include a conference room and restaurant. In addition, there is a small gym in the basement.
In Examples 1 and 2, in addition is followed by a clause. It can also be followed by an object. In this case we must use the phrase in addition to object comma.
Example 3:
In addition to a conference room and restaurant, the building facilities include a small gym, which is located in the basement.
Tomorrow we will look at another connector word used for giving additional information.
