CONNECTORS: ALSO

Good morning and welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had an enjoyable long weekend.

This week we are going to start a series of Vitamins on CONNECTOR or LINKING WORDS.

CONNECTORS are used to show relationships between ideas.

We will begin by explaining CONNECTORS, which continue the same idea or add another fact or idea to what you have already said.

Today's word is: also

It is used: to continue the same idea of something that has been previously stated or to add additional information.

Word position: There are two possible positions for also:
(1) You can begin a sentence with also comma;
(2) Also can go before a main verb, after an auxiliary verb or modal, or after the verb TO BE.

Example 1:
The company director is planning to restructure the marketing department. Also, he wants to increase the number of salespeople. (The beginning of the sentence.)

Example 2:
We had a great weekend. We went to this great Italian restaurant in the city centre. We also saw the new Woody Allen film. (Before the main verb.)

You can also use the word too with the same meaning. However, too is usually used at the end of the sentence.

Example 3:
We went to this great Italian restaurant in the city centre. We saw the new Woody Allen film too.
