CONNECTORS: FURTHERMORE: meaning and examples
Good morning / afternoon / evening, everybody, depending on when you are reading this lesson. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.
Today we continue our series of Vitamins about CONNECTORS that are used to continue the same idea or give additional information.
Today's connector is: furthermore
It is used: to give additional information about something you have just said. It is a formal word and consequently, it is more usual in written English. An informal spoken equivalent of furthermore is What's more.
Word position: Furthermore comma goes at the beginning of the sentence.
Example 1:
We were very dissatisfied with our hotel. Furthermore, the activities that the tour operator had promised us did not exist.
Example 2:
The study showed that the conditions in Factory B were more precarious than Factory A. Furthermore, production was higher in Factory A than Factory B.
Example 3:
We've got tickets to the Bruce Springsteen concert! What's more, they're front-row tickets! I can't wait!
