SYNONYMS: ANGRY: meaning and examples

Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone, depending on when you are reading this. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin

Today we continue with our series of lessons about different common adjectives in English and some synonyms of those adjectives. As I said yesterday, by learning some synonyms of these adjectives, you can easily build your vocabulary and be a bit more creative when you speak; you won't use the same words over and over.

Today's adjective is: Angry

Meaning: having a strong feeling against someone who has behaved badly, making you want to shout at them or hurt them. (This definition is also from the Cambridge Online Dictionary).

Following are three synonyms of angry. Although they are synonyms, just like I did yesterday with happy, I have included their official definitions (also from the Cambridge Online Dictionary) so that you can see any differences in meaning.

Furious: extremely angry

Example 1: When she found out that her husband was sleeping with another woman, she was furious; she got a lawyer immediately and asked for a divorce.

Irritated: showing or feeling slight anger.

Example 2: The CEO was a bit irritated when the marketing department didn't follow his instructions for the new advertising campaign. He probably would have been furious, but the truth is that the marketing department's changes made the campaign very successful.

Wrathful: characterized by intense anger; very angry.

Example 3: Some people think that natural disasters are created by some sort of wrathful God.

Can you pick one or two of these angry synonyms and use them in a coherent sentence? You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about your sentences as soon as possible.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
