A RACKET OR RACKETEERING

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. 

Today we are continuing with our crime words. So far, we have seen the verbs...
⇒ To blackmail (to make someone give you money or to do what you want by threatening to tell people negative or embarrassing information about them)
and
⇒ To bribe (to give money or presents to someone so they will help you by doing something dishonest or illegal).

Today's Words are: racket or racketeering

Meaning:
racket ⇒ an illegal activity that makes money.
racketeering ⇒ the crime of making money from illegal activities.

Example 1: The two mafia members were arrested for a smuggling racket.

Example 2: Racketeering has become one of the preferred hobbies of some politicians.

We can also refer to the person who practices racketeering as a racketeer.

Example 3:
Speaker 1: What do you think of the mayor?
Speaker 1: That racketeer? I think he should be put in prison.
