NAIL-3: meaning and examples

Hello and good morning!

Today we finish our short series of Daily Vitamins about expressions with the word NAIL. Please note that this will also be the last Daily Vitamin of the week, since we will take a long weekend due to the bank holiday tomorrow (May 1st).

Today's expression is: a nail in someone's / something's coffin

Meaning: something that makes the end or failure of an organization, someone's plan, etc. more likely to happen.

Example 1:
Losing their biggest customer was the final nail in the company's coffin. I'm sure they will close before the end of the year.

Example 2:
Every word of criticism that Jack says about the boss is another nail in his coffin. I predict he'll be fired before the end of the week.
