Another common meaning of miss is to feel sad about someone because they are no longer present or to wish you still had something that you don't or to wish that you could do an activity that you no longer can.

Her uncle was a very influential person in her life; it's no surprise that she misses him so much. Last year he died of cancer.

Many people in the UK miss Queen Elizabeth after her death, others don't.

Example 3
miss going to the cinema every weekend. It just isn't possible anymore now that we have children.
