TO BLOW YOUR MIND: meaning and examples

Good morning!

We received this suggestion from one of our readers, Judit: Could you explain the meaning of the expression "to blow someone's mind"?

Today's expression is: to blow someone's mind

Meaning: We use this informal expression when someone or something impresses us or affects us in a strong way. We can use this expression to show how surprised we are by something.

Example 1:
I went to a rock concert last night. It really blew my mind. I've never seen such a spectacular stage show!

Example 2:
I thought my dad would be furious when I told him I crashed the car. But no, he just told me to get it fixed. His calm reaction totally blew my mind.

There is a similar expression: to blow you away, which has the same meaning. We use it to express the idea that something is very surprising to us.

Example 3:
It blew me away when Robbie asked me to marry him when we'd only known each other for a couple of months. Of course, I said no.

Example 4:
The president blows me away every time I hear him speak. He is so inspiring!
