THAT'S NOT HOW I SEE IT: meaning and examples

Hello again everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope your day is going well.

Here we are on day three of our look at different phrases and expressions that we can use to disagree with other people. My objective is to give you some options of phrases that you can use instead of I don't agree.

Following are today's three phrases that you can use to disagree with people.
That's not how I see it.
I have a different perspective.
I'm inclined to disagree.

Example 1:
Joan: The reason the sales are down is because of the poor economy.
Alicia: That's not how I see it. It's true that the economy is not excellent right now, but we have to create our own economy. Let's stop focusing on excuses and justifications for our low sales and begin to look for solutions.
Joan: You're right... sorry. Tomorrow I will set up a brainstorming session with my team.
Alicia: Excellent!

Example 2:
John: The world is a dangerous place and things seem to be getting worse and worse.
Carla: I have a different perspective. There are always bad things happening on the Earth but, overall, we are better off than we have ever been and there is no reason why things can't get better. It all starts with each one of us.
John: You're right... sorry. I had a difficult day; but I know that tomorrow is going to be a better day.

Example 3
Nicola: Arturo, you've set an impossible sales goal for 2024. There's no way we're going to reach our sales objectives in the next 11 months!
Arturo: I'm inclined to disagree. It's only a 25% increase over last-year's results. You have an excellent team, but they are never going to excel if you continue to have this defeatist attitude.
Nicola: Okay... okay. You're absolutely correct. I guess I'm just a bit stressed, but I know that we'll be able to reach the goal. Thanks for helping me to see that.

My hope is that you can use some of these phrases in your daily English interactions sometime in the near future; maybe today. For the moment, I encourage you to create your own sentence(s)/dialogue(s) with one or more of these expressions on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback as soon as possible.

Enjoy the rest of your day and we'll be back tomorrow with three more phrases that you can use to disagree with someone.

All the best!
