TENSE TUESDAY: WORDS USED WITH PRESENT CONTINUOUS (CURRENTLY): meaning and examples

Hello everyone! Last week for Tense Tuesday, we looked at how we use the adverb ALWAYS with the Present Progressive. Check out that lesson by clicking on the following link:

Today is Part II of that lesson and we are looking at the adverb CURRENTLY. We use this word just as we use ALWAYS:

IS/AM/ARE CURRENTLY -ING

We use this construction when we are talking about an action or event that is taking place at this time.

Example 1
: I am from Brazil, but I am currently living in Italy.

Example 2
: He is currently serving as company CEO until we can find a replacement.

Example 3: We are currently shopping for a new home.

We often use CURRENTLY with the Simple Present as well. In this case, it is often implied that this will be a temporary state.

Example 4
: I currently work in sales, but I'm hoping to move to marketing in the winter.

Example 5
: Currently we are not accepting applications.

That's all for today. Do you have any questions? Let us know on our Facebook page!
