TENSE TUESDAY: FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS: meaning and examples

Welcome to The Daily Vitamin! For Tense Tuesday, we are looking at the FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS

The form for the FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS is WILL HAVE BEEN ING or BE GOING TO HAVE BEEN ING

We use this verb tense when we want to show a relationship between a future point in time and another continuing future action

Example 1: In October, we will have been living in our apartment for 20 years.

Example 2: This summer, I will have been working for this company for a year.

Example 3: By the time you wake up, she is going to have been working for two hours.

Remember that we cannot use the Continuous Tenses with Non-Action verbs. In these situations, we use the FUTURE PERFECT instead of the FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS

Example 4 (incorrect): By the end of the year, I will have been having my car for two years.

Example 5 (correct): By
the end of the year, I will have had my car for two years.
