TELECOMMUTE VOCABULARY: BREAKING UP: meaning and examples

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you've had a nice week.

Today we will finish up our theme Telecommuting (= teleworking) Vocabulary. Many of us are working from home and are using video-conferencing systems. Perhaps some of us have to deal with internet connection issues. If you have this problem, then today's phrase, BREAKING UP, is for you.

Definition: When a video or call is not clear and you can only hear parts of what the other person is saying.

Example 1: I can't hear you. You're breaking up.

Example 2: You were breaking up. Could you please repeat that last sentence again?

Example 3: Can you hear me? Am I breaking up?

We also use this phrasal verb when discussing relationships, but this is a different definition. You can read about it here, in a lesson from 2016:

This concludes our lessons for the week. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! We will see you on Monday for more lessons.
