TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK

Today's expression is: to take a long hard look (at somebody or something).

It means: to think very carefully about a situation or a problem to find what is wrong or to find a better alternative.

Example:
We should take a long hard look at the way we pay our employees. I think if we add incentives, we can save money and pay our workers better.
