SPORTS-RELATED EXPRESSIONS (ARMCHAIR QUARTERBACK): meaning and examples

Today is our first lesson of the week, and our last lesson of the month of January. This week we are looking at idioms and expressions related to sports. 

Today's sports-related expression is: Armchair quarterback

Definition: This is an American expression which refers to someone who gives opinions about something without having direct knowledge or experience of it. 

Example 1: Doug is such an armchair quarterback. He thinks that because he is such a successful salesman that he knows everything there is to know about marketing. He is always giving us advice about our ad campaigns. 

Example 2: Lisa is always criticizing the other players on the volleyball team and offering them advice, yet she is not even that good herself (and is not a starter). Sometimes she can be such an armchair quarterback.
