SHOOT EXPRESSIONS-4: meaning and examples

Good morning "vitamineros"!

Today we finish off our series of Daily Vitamins about expressions with the word SHOOT by looking at an informal use of SHOOT as an exclamation.

Today's SHOOT expression is: Shoot! (spoken & informal)

Meaning: used to show that you are annoyed when you do something stupid or when something goes wrong; the word shoot is a more polite replacement for the swearword SHIT. This use of shoot is most common in American English, while in UK English the word SHITE is usually used.

Example 1:
Shoot Mark! Can you please wait until I close the door and get my seatbelt on before you start driving? Don't be so impatient!

Example 2:
Are you telling me we didn't even reach 60% of our sales objectives for May? Shoot! The CEO is going to be very angry when he finds out; I had promised him much better results.

If you have any questions or comments, I hope you will share them with our readers on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ZigguratEscuelaCorporativadeIdiomas.

Remember that tomorrow we present the Essential Weekly Vitamin for Spanish-speaking students of English.

Until then, have a great day!
