REMEMBER TO DO vs. REMEMBER DOING

Good morning and happy Thursday everyone; welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.

Today we are going to learn the difference between the verb patterns remember to do and remember doing. As you will see, the form of the second verb (to do or doing) changes the meaning of the verb remember.

REMEMBER TO DO (FUTURE)
It means: to remember (not to forget) that you must do something in the future.

Example 1: Can you remember to pick up the shirts from the dry-cleaner's (tintorería)? They will be ready this afternoon.

Example 2: I never remember to close the windows when I leave the house. Luckily, it's not usually a problem unless it rains!

REMEMBER DOING (PAST)
It means: to have a memory about something that you did in the past.

Example 3:
Alan: I can't find my book!
Lucy: Well, think for a moment. Do you remember reading it yesterday before you went to bed? Maybe it's still on the bedside table.

Example 4: I remember going camping with my family every summer when I was a child. At the time, I hated the long trips in the car, but when we arrived at our destination, I always had a wonderful time.
