REIMBURSED
REIMBURSED: meaning and examples
Hello everyone. I hope you are having a great day. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.
Today's word is: to reimburse
It means: to pay back money that someone has spent, especially for work-related expenses.
Example 1:
When I travel for my company, I pay for everything and when I get back to the office I am reimbursed for everything I spend.
Example 2:
Don't worry, I will reimburse you for all of your expenses during the trip.
The use of this word is especially frequent in professional environments where employees often have to save receipts in order to be reimbursed later for money they have spent for the company.
The meaning of this word is very similar to pay back (the expression we studied yesterday); the difference is that the person who does the "reimbursing" doesn't actually participate directly in the spending of the money, and the person who spends the money often isn't spending it for themselves.
I encourage you to create your own sentence that includes today's word. You can post your sentence on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Bluesky) and we will give you feedback about your writing ASAP.
