RECYCLING-2 (NUMBERS AND DECIMAL POINTS): meaning and examples

Good morning everybody!

Today we continue with our recycling and review. Today's Daily Vitamin was originally sent on October 30th, 2003. I hope you enjoy it.

**************************************
Today's topic is: Numbers and decimal points in English and how their use differs from numbers and decimal points in Catalan and Spanish.

Explanation: Remember that in English the commas and the decimal points with numbers are used in exactly the opposite way as in Spanish and Catalan. One thousand three hundred dollars would be written like this:

$1,300

Tres coma cinc/Tres coma cinco would be written like this:

3.5 (Three point five)

You should also remember that any numbers to the right of a decimal point are pronounced individually and not together. So 1.456 is pronounced one point four five six and NOT one point four hundred and fifty-six.

Practice 1:
What are the equivalent English numbers for the following Spanish/Catalan numbers? (To see the answers put your cursor over the number.)

1) 3.452.987,02
2) 1,568
3) 0,04

Practice 2:
