Meaning: to suggest that someone has said something when in fact they have not.

Example 1:
I didn't say that you could go to the dance this Friday with Jeremy. You're putting words into my mouth!

Example 2:
Jack is constantly putting words into my mouth. I didn't say that I would be the MC* at the company Christmas dinner; he just won't take no for an answer!

(*MC = master of ceremonies)
