PHRASAL VERBS FOR ROMANCE (HIT ON SOMEONE): meaning and examples

Happy Monday, everyone! How was your weekend? I hope it was fantastic.

This Thursday is Valentine's Day. To celebrate, we are looking at Phrasal Verbs related to romance this week.

We begin with the colloquial phrasal verb TO HIT ON SOMEONE.

Definition: To show romantic interest in someone.

Example 1: I think your brother is hitting on the bartender.

Example 2: A guy on the train hit on me today.

This phrasal verb is TRANSITIVE and is INSEPARABLE

Here's a fun fact: do you remember the Britney Spears song where she says, "hit me baby, one more time?" The writer of the song was Swedish. He meant to write about
hitting ON someone, not actually hitting someone. This phrasal verb mistake didn't matter: it was still the song that made her famous.

That's all for today. Thank you for reading!
