Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had a great weekend.  

For the next few Daily Vitamins we will look at phrasal verbs that use the verb TO MAKE.

Today's phrasal verb is: make of

The phrasal verb make of is used in different expressions with similar meanings.

MAKE SOMETHING OF SOMETHING-SOMEONE
Meaning: to use any opportunity possible in order to be successful.

Example 1: Kevin is determined to make something of his life. (= Kevin plans to do whatever he can to be successful in life.)

Example 2: We bought a really old flat but with a little time and money, we're sure we can make something of it.

MAKE THE BEST OF SOMETHING
Meaning: to try and get a good result from a bad situation.

Example 3: Sally can't come to today's meeting to present our ideas to the new client because she's ill. We'll have to make the best of it without her.

MAKE A GO OF SOMETHING
Meaning: to try your best to make something successful.

Example 4: We don't have much money to contribute, but we've got time and we're motivated, so let's make a go of it!

MAKE MUCH OF SOMETHING
Meaning: to give a lot of importance to something.

Example 5: Mr. Burns is certainly making much of the new office furniture. He says it will help us create a more professional atmosphere.
