LIVE EXPRESSIONS-1: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone. I hope you had a nice weekend.

In September of 2004 we did a short series of Daily Vitamins about the word LIVE (verb)/LIVE (adjective). We saw that LIVE could be a verb or an adjective, and that the pronunciation varied depending on its grammatical category. This week, we are going to look at expressions with the verb LIVE.

Today's expression is: TO LIVE IT UP

Meaning: to enjoy yourself in an exciting way, often spending lots of money.

Example 1:
Boy...Janet has really been living it up ever since she graduated from University. However, if she wants to move out of her parents' house I think she needs to start looking for a job.

Example 2:
Rachel was really living it up at the party.
