Definition: To be under strict control, with little to no independence.

Example 1: Our parents kept us on a short leash, so we all rebelled a little when we went to university. I got a tattoo and my sister shaved her head.

Example 2: Your parents said you have to be home by 10:00PM? Wow, you're really on a short leash.

Example 3: My marks in school were bad, so now I'm on a short leash. My parents even check my phone and monitor my screen-time.
