GET A MOVE ON: meaning and examples
Good morning,
Today's expression is: TO GET A MOVE ON (informal expression)
It means: to hurry up or do things more quickly. The person saying this is often in a position of authority, like a parent, teacher or the coach of a team. We can also use it to say that we need to work more quickly in order to finish something.
Example 1:
Mother: Jackie! Lyle! Get a move on or you're both going to be late for school!
Jackie: We're just brushing our teeth and then we'll be ready!
Example 2:
You still have five questions to answer before the time is up so get a move on.
Example 3:
I know you'd all rather talk about the results of last night's rugby match but we'd better get a move on or else we'll never finish this meeting by 10 o'clock.
