EXPRESSIONS WITH SHIT-1: meaning and examples

Last Thursday we looked at the exclamation "shoot"!, which we said could be a more-polite replacement for the informal swearword SHIT. At the risk of offending some of our readers, this week we are going to look at expressions with the word SHIT. It is a word that can be offensive, but it is used quite a bit in real English, so we feel like we should include it. Remember that using this word, or its related expressions, can be offensive; so be careful if you use it.
The word SHIT alone (which literally means excrement) is often used to show that you are angry or annoyed.
Example 1:
Shit! I can't find my sunglasses. Have you seen them anywhere?
We also use SHIT to refer to stupid remarks or nonsense.
Example 2:
The salesman talks a lot of shit. I don't believe a word he says.
Or to indicate that something or someone is very bad.
Example 3:
We beat them 10 goals to 1, but they are a shit team, so I don't understand why you are celebrating so much.
As I said above, SHIT is also used in a lot of expressions, so we're going to look at some of those during the rest of the week.
