Today's expression is: the big picture (informal)
Meaning: the situation as a whole; a complete view of something.
Example 1:
Look Lisa; I know you're not happy about your salary cut, but we have to consider the big picture. There is a crisis and the company is struggling. It was either a salary cut or losing your job; your situation could be worse.
Example 2:
The General Manager of any company should never lose track of the big picture.
