ADJECTIVE ORDER-AGE-COLOUR

Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.

Today we continue with the topic of adjective order.

Remember that opinion adjectives go before fact adjectives: Opinion ⇒ Fact  NOUN

Yesterday's rule: Opinion ⇒ Fact (size or length) ⇒ Fact (shape or width)  NOUN

Today we look at two more types of fact adjectives.

Fact Adjectives (Position 2): Adjectives of Age

Fact adjectives that answer the question how old? (old, ancient, new, young, etc.) usually go in the second position.

Fact Adjectives (Position 3): Adjectives of Colour

Fact adjectives that answer the question what colour? (black, white, purple, green, grey, etc.) usually go in the third position.

If you have two colours, you use the word and between them (for example, black and white).

Let's review the adjective orders that we have learned so far this week:
Opinion ⇒ Fact (size-length) ⇒ Fact (shape-width) ⇒ Fact (age) ⇒ Fact (colour)  NOUN

Example 1: They've got a set of beautiful (opinion), ancient (age), blue and white (colour) dishes.

Example 2: Those are pretty (opinion), new (age), red (colour) shoes.

Example 3: They own a small (size), old (age), black (colour) car.
