PAST PERFECT (ADVERB PLACEMENT): meaning and examples

Hello, everyone! Welcome to another day of our lessons about the Past Perfect. Today we are talking about the placement of ADVERBS when using this tense.

Generally, in statements, we place the adverb between the verb HAD and the PAST PARTICIPLE

Subject HAD (adverb) past participle

Example 1: We had never seen a shooting star that was so bright, until we went camping.

Example 2: Yes, I had previously considered being an environmental scientist.

Example 3: My dad had always wanted a Ferrari. I can't believe he finally owns one.

In the question form, the adverb comes between the SUBJECT and the PAST PARTICIPLE.

HAD subject (adverb) past participle...?

Example 4: Had you ever thought about a different career before becoming a doctor?

That's it for today! Tomorrow will be our last lesson on the Past Perfect. We hope you'll join us.
