TICK EXPRESSIONS-1: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone. I hope you had a nice weekend. 

This week we are going to study some expressions with the word TICK. First, let's look at the meanings of the word TICK itself.

Meaning 1 of TICK: to make short, light regular repeated sounds to mark time passing.

Example 1:
In the silence of the night, we could hear the clock ticking.

Meaning 2 of TICK: to put a tick mark next to an item on a list, an answer, etc.

Example 2:
When you vote, be sure to tick the correct box next to the name of the candidate.

Meaning 3 of TICK: a small insect that bites humans and animals and sucks their blood; some types of ticks carry diseases.

Example 3:
Jason had a horrible tick bite behind his ear; it's quite infected.
