Today's expression is: to nail someone down

Meaning: to force someone to give you a definite promise or tell you exactly what they intend to do.

Example 1:
He told me that he will come to the meeting, but I can't nail him down to a specific time, so I don't know if he will be here when you present your new marketing plan.

Example 2:
We tried to nail him down about where the money would come from for the marketing plan, but he avoided being more specific.
