DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH: meaning and examples
Good morning.
Today's expression is: Don't hold your breath (informal / sarcastic)
Meaning: we say this expression to emphasize that something will take a long time to happen, or it may not happen at all. (For those of you who speak Spanish, the equivalent expression in Spanish would be mejor espera sentado).
Example 1:
He said that he'd have the report finished by Friday, but don't hold your breath.
Example 2:
Lisa: The garden is such a mess. David is supposed to rake the leaves (recoger las hojas con un rastrillo).
Tom: Don't hold your breath. He never does his share of the work.
