PHRASAL VERB: KICK IN: meaning and examples

Good morning and happy Friday to you all!

Today, for Phrasal Verb Friday, we are looking at one, fairly colloquial, definition of TO KICK IN.

Definition: When something starts having an effect; when the effect is felt.

Example 1: I had a bad headache, but the medicine kicked in quickly and then I felt better.

Example 2: The budget cuts are kicking in next week, so we all have to work fewer hours.

Example 3: Did the caffeine kick in yet?

This phrasal verb is INTRANSITIVE.
