WARN-2: meaning and examples

Hello again.

Yesterday we looked at the meaning of warn; today we are going to look at an expression that uses warn in it.  

Today's expression is: to warn someone off (something)

Meaning 1: to tell someone to leave or stay away from a place or person, especially in a threatening way.

Example 1:
The farmer warned us off his land when we tried to camp there. We packed up quickly and left.

Meaning 2: to advise someone not to do something, or to stop doing something that they are doing.

Example 2:
We were warned off buying the land. According to our estate agent, it is over-priced.
