VEGETABLE EXPRESSIONS-1: meaning and examples

Good morning. I hope everyone had a good weekend.

A couple of weeks ago we reviewed some interesting English expressions that used the names of fruits in them. This week, we are going to look at expressions in English that use vegetable words.

Today's expression is: Cool as a cucumber

It means: very calm and controlled, especially in a difficult situation.

Example 1:
When a fire broke out in the office, the director didn't even panic; he simply ordered people to exit the building in a calm and relaxed manner. He was as cool as a cucumber.

Example 2:
She was cool as a cucumber, even right after she was fired.

The word cool (fresco) can also mean calm and relaxed, which is what it means in this expression.
