SPRING-4: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today we finish our look at some different expressions that use the verb spring in them.

Today's first expression is: to spring from (spoken; informal)

Meaning: to appear suddenly and unexpectedly from a particular place.

Example 1:
I was walking down the corridor when suddenly a man in a dark suit sprang from behind a wall. He scared the heck out of me!

Today's second expression is: to spring up

Meaning: to appear or develop quickly and suddenly.

Example 2:
Before the crisis, estate agents sprang up everywhere. Since the crisis, many have disappeared.
