SPRING-2: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow (Thursday), we will look at some different expressions that use the verb spring in them.

Today's first expression is: to spring into action

Meaning: to suddenly start working or doing something.

Example 1:
The government is hoping that the economy will spring into action after the measures that they have taken (saving the banks, injecting the economy with cash, etc.).

Today's second expression is: to spring a leak

Meaning: to develop a hole through which water or another liquid can pass.

Example 2:
The boat sprang a leak and began to sink. They radioed for help.
