RELEASE (1): meaning and examples

Good morning, Today we will answer a question from one of our readers, Christian: "I would like to know the possible meanings for the word release, which I find quite difficult to understand in some sentences." RELEASE Meaning 1: (verb; noun) to let someone (a person or an animal) leave a place where they have been kept. Example 1 The state governor has decided to release thirty prisoners from jail. Example 2 Don't release the dog from its leash (correa). It's forbidden to do so. Example 3 The kidnappers wanted $500,000 for the release of their hostage. You can sometimes hear this verb in songs. For example "Please release me.". In this sense the verb means I feel imprisoned by you. Please let me go." Tomorrow we will look at other meanings of release.
