NEW WORDS FROM 2021 (GIG ECONOMY): meaning and examples

Hello everyone; I hope you are doing well. Welcome to our last Daily Vitamin lesson of the year. Today we look at our final "new" word/expression that became popular in 2021.

Today's expression is: Gig Economy

Definition: a way of working that is based on people having temporary jobs or doing separate pieces of work, each paid separately, rather than working for an employer regularly, with a contract.

Example 1: This gig economy provides interesting opportunities for young people looking for their first work experience; however, it is causing a bit of instability in the workforce.

Example 2: We're seeing the gig economy becoming an important part of the workforce, and labour unions are responding.

That's it for this week, and for this year. I hope you found the Daily Vitamin lessons interesting and that they helped you to improve your English with a bit of practice each day.

If you have a moment, tell us what your most memorable Daily Vitamin lesson of 2021 was. You can tell us on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter) and, hopefully, we can start a conversation.

Happy holidays to everyone. Enjoy your break.

All the best!
