MUSIC (1): meaning and examples

Good morning and welcome.

Today we are going to look at some words related to music.

Our first word is: Concert or In concert

Meaning: a music performance of any kind.

Example 1:
Maria del Mar Bonet appeared in concert at the Palau Sant Jordi to celebrate thirty years in music.

Example 2:
My son's playing the violin in his school concert tonight.

Our second word is: Gig

Meaning: a colloquial word for concert. It is often used by musicians or music journalists. Gig is often preferred when the word concert seems too formal.

Example 3:
Speaker 1: Do you like the Stones?
Speaker 2: Yes, I've got all their albums and I've seen them in concert five times. Their last gig was even better than the one I saw in 1998.

Live music is música en directo. The pronunciation of the adjective live is like drive, NOT give.

Example 4:
Their music is great, but they aren't very exciting live
