Meaning: Loophole is used in legal contexts to indicate when there is a mistake in the way a law or contract has been written, which enables people to legally avoid doing something that the law or contract theoretically obliges them to do.

Example 2:
Due to a loophole in the criminal law code, the thief was set free.
